Found a cool bed today

Unread postby Wlog » Sun Jan 05, 2020 8:49 am

Went out this morning and found some beds. Took some pics of this one because it was so big and worn down.

This bed was completely full of hair and raisinettes. Looks like he lays here everyday. Right behind the hump the bed was on is a deep creek and on the other side of the creek is a wall of chest high greenbrier. Out 100 yards in front of the bed across the swamp is the edge of the crop field and the access all the hunters walk in on. Classic!

View from the bed. If you look out in the distance you can see the edge of the access.

Not easy for an evening hunt. All the bases are covered. I picked out a tree for a morning hunt that is a 20 yard shot across the creek right to the bed. I think that’s my best shot because he can’t circle around me without swimming. I have to set up kind of far away on an evening hunt. There’s a lot of other satellite beds though and I jumped deer in 2 other spots within 100 yards of this bed today. Both of those deer held tight in their beds until I almost stepped on them. They don’t want to leave. There’s a ton of pressure around.

That bed is definitely worn down. Good job on finding it. You can definitely see how he monitors human pressure feom there. Did you find any other sign that would indicate it is used by a mature buck?

Yeah there was a rub on a sapling right there at the bed. I knew there was a good one in there at some point this year but didn’t know exactly where he was coming from. A couple hundred yards away on the edge of the crop fields there was a bunch of thigh to waist high rubs. I found more good primary bedding farther down the branch too that looked really good. It’s actually seems a little easier to get close to for a setup. I marked several possible setups in that area.

Great find for sure! I found one today as well but it doesn’t appear to be getting as much use as yours. It was surrounded by water as well but it was all iced over.

It might be worth an evening observation sit very early, before pressure hits, to see if he shows in a killable spot?

Otherwise i like the morning plan!
