Nothing to See Here

Unread postby seazofcheeze » Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:24 pm

 That's a lie! It's Montana, bucks everywhere! I can't shoot my bow at my current place, so I got a combination archery practice session/glassing trip in last night. No mega bucks, but lots of solid bucks. This area has more shooters in a 5 square mile area than I would find in a whole season back home

Wow. Those are some nice bucks.

I’ve been driving around a fair bit around here and haven’t even seen one like that.

I'm looking for something to get really excited about this year. These are nice bucks, but I'm looking to chase something with a "wow factor" this year.

Archery deer and elk opens the first Saturday in September, which is Sept 5th this year. I'll have to see a 150+ whitetail or something with drop tines or really non-typical to change my mind and chase a whitetail instead of a muley. I haven't seen anything close to that yet. Probably a few that will finish in the 120s or 130s though. Lots of solid bucks, no monsters.

I like the lopsided buck. Looks like he had an injury to his back leg. Cool video.

He was definitely injured. It looked like he was favoring the left rear leg pretty good, and his rack was messed up on the right side. I've heard about that happening (injury on one side and messed up rack on the other side), but that's probably the first time I've seen an obvious case in person.
