Bug Spray??
Went out and did a few hours of scouting today without thinking about it being spring and bugs. I was wondering if anyone wears bug spray on their scouting trips? The ticks and gnats were horrendous. Also, does anyone use bug spray during the early season or do most stick with the thermacell? Thanks

I treat my clothes with permetherin for ticks. I also use bug spray early season and a thermacell

Re: Bug Spray??
I've used picaridin for gnats and mosquitos with some success, based on others recommendations. This in combo with Permetherin for ticks helps a lot.

Re: Bug Spray??
Does the permethrin work well for ticks? I know that the thermacell is a lifesaver but was unsure if some good old fashioned OFF deepwoods would be too much, even downwind?!

Permetherin is great for ticks. Don't put it directly on skin, treat clothes/boots only.

Re: Bug Spray??
I honestly just spray down with spray and if you are playing the wind and thermals correctly you should be good in my mind. It’s either human scent or human scent with bug spray...

Exactly. Deer won’t totally freak out about bug spray or a Thermacell by itself but adding human scent will do it just about every single time.

Very good point. Thank you! Used the permethrin today and had a tick free experience!

Be careful with that permethrin it’s some nasty stuff. You don’t wanna spray on your skin or breathe the fumes. Also don’t spray near cats because it’s a toxin and can kill them. They say once dry it’s harmless so I won’t wear my clothing until it’s been drying for at least a few days.

I mostly lurk and don’t post. I’ll only post when I believe that post won’t degrade the signal to noise ratio. That said, ...
I use outer clothes treated with permethrin
https://gamehide.com/product-category/e ... -clothing/
They are effective for 7 years / 70 washings.
I have no affiliation with them.
Way better than spraying my clothes every 4 weeks or so.
I have not had ticks on me since using gamehide clothes.
Butchering a deer, found a couple live ticks, put them on my gamehide pants, three steps and they fell off and died.
Additionally I’ll run a thermacell for mosquitoes and spray non-clothes with Sawyers.

I'd wear a nice underlayer too, just to be safe, it does attack your nervous system and is pretty horrible stuff in large doses. Not saying one dose or small doses are toxic but if you use a lot of it for years that can add up.
