dan wrote:Not much for big bears last week... Light hits due to rain and increased dog pressure. I did have one interesting series of photo's though. When I baited last week I could hear a bear pacing around close in the thick swamp firns and could even see them moving, but couldn't see the actual bear. Well, as figured he (they) hit right after I left. Look at the times.

Last week was a bad week... maybe the worst. Dog runners were hitting it really haRD probably due to it being there last week, and cooler temps. And we had a lot of rain that got the bait wet and washed away the scent. They don't seem to like soggy bait and the bread starts to smell like alcohol when it gets wet.
This week should be better... Plan is to make sure Chris's son gets a decent bear right away... Im more pumped for him than me. I won't have computer access up there so you probably won't hear a lot from me till we get back. But I am sure Chris will post some updates.

   Good luck on those bears.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Noticed that as well with the rain and I have had to move the pit once at most sites as the first one got pretty nasty smelling and looking after some of the rain we had. Looks like temps in the 60s for the start...don't know if that's bad or good but has to be better then 90. Good luck to you and your group.

Little late for this year, but in the future I would recommend the hollow log and cover like I do, and to put it on higher ground. Water kills a bait.

Last week was real slow... Found a couple guys putting out baits real close to mine. Heading up in the morning, not sure when I will be back. PM Carol if there are issues. Hunting starts Wednesday. I won't have internet, but Chris may be able to post from his phone.
