That tag system must really stink bad ? They have that in New Brunswick, Canada ,but there is always a surplus of tags .

Re: Mn bear hunters
In certain permit area's here In Mn they need a lottery otherwise It would be much more overcrowded then It already Is. I wish the permits In my zone were less then they are now. I'd be more then willing to hunt every other year and have a much better quality bear hunt then to hunt every year like I do now and have so so hunting conditions. 10+ years ago the permits were allot less In my zone then they are now. We only got drawn every other year and the bear hunting was pretty good. Most years when the permits were less more bear were shot In the zone I hunt with less hunters compared to now with more hunters. The Mn DNR will never get It.NSOUTFITTER wrote:That tag system must really stink bad ? They have that in New Brunswick, Canada ,but there is always a surplus of tags .

Re: Mn bear hunters
Where I hunt we've got decent numbers In bear. There's also plenty of public land but just way to many hunters In the woods at the same time.NSOUTFITTER wrote:Would the resoning being ,not enough woods or hunting area's ? Or just shortage of bears ? Or too many hunters ?

Re: Mn bear hunters
I see . So what are usually the odds of snagging a bear tag every other year ? our moose license is the same way here but I have been in the draw for 15 years and still never got one nor has any member of my family . That really stinks !!

Re: Mn bear hunters
We get prefferance points... It looks like Minnesota is going to become a two point state with a lucky few drawing on first point... In wisconsin it takes from 6 to 10 years depending on the area.

Re: Mn bear hunters
I believe in my bear hunting area in Michigan it takes 3 to 4 points banked to be sure to draw a kill tag for the first bear season which opens Sept. 10th. The preference point system is still better than a lottery system. I once went 6 or 7 yrs without drawing a Michigan tag. That was back when we still had the lottery system. Every other year doesn't sound too bad. M.P.
