Predator Calling vs Bait

Unread postby Octang » Sat May 13, 2017 12:14 pm

I am hoping to go up to Minn Boundary Waters black bear hunting this fall. They don't allow the use of traditional baiting up there, which I am cool with because I would rather turn myself into bear bait and use a predator call anyhow. However I can use scents (like burning bacon grease, honey, anise, etc...), which seems to be the preferred method most guys use up there.

Do you think it is beneficial to use a predator call in conjunction with a scent attractant? This could potentially titillate their sense of smell, and hearing, instead of just one or the other. Or would it be best I just stick to one or the other at a time?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Personally, I would do one or the other... You could do both on a trip, but I wouldn't do it at the same time.... I don't think the smell of donuts goes with the sound of a crying fawn.

Do yourself a favor and call the forest circus and see where they are having bear problems near camping areas.

What do you guys think about a bear cub in distress call at a bait?
