My wife is working all weekend again so I'm stuck with one bait per day until August 19th. This morning was little different than my mornings the last couple weeks. A pre-dawn wake up call, bait, and back home before 8AM to watch the kids. I stuck to the broken rotation and baited the hogback site today. I last baited this site on Tuesday. A sow and 3 cubs showed up at 11 AM. They hung around all day and ate almost all the bait. 10 gallons just about gone by 6PM. Other bears worked there way through the next few days. Best bear(s) showed up both Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at dusk. Activity was slow both Friday and Saturday. I don't know if this was due to the lack of bait or the dog pressure. By bet is on the latter based on weeks of trail camera evidence. Regardless, site is loaded once again and keeping the bears happy.

Ran baits on the Frog Holler today. Good activity but two things need to happen.

1.) Bait needs to move an 1/8 mile west. Nothing is coming from the east.

2.) Need to dry this one out a bit. It has a ton of activity but the quality isn't there. Average bears and lots of sows and cubs. I need more focus on the better baits.

I want to run baits a walk beds in the offseason here.

Ran bait to the swamp point this morning. Nothing new to report bear wise. Same visitors. I still have daylight activity but activity has been down overall the last few days. The weather has been unseasonably cool with morning temps in the low to mid 40s. Don't know if this is contributing. Regardless, this time of year defines the quality of your site. It's starting to get exciting.

Ran bait to the creek bottom site this morning. Also added a crib. Pattern is the same. I set this bait last Thursday. Like previous weeks, activity was poor / nocturnal during the weekend when the dogs are running. Only daylight bear was the white V bear. He sure gets around. ;) Activity significantly improved yesterday but the big boy didn't show up. He usually shows back up on Tuesday night.

These next few days should be good.

I'm going to bait the Hogback site tomorrow and the Swamp Point site on Thursday. Then the baits need to sit for a while. Thursday night my wife and I are taking the kids up north for an extended weekend of fishing, boating, and summer fun. Monday morning we're doing a charter on Lake Michigan. I may take Tuesday morning off so I can bait all the sites in one day rather than one bait per morning. Running a bait every morning is pushing me closer to burnout. Plus its not an efficient use of time nor fuel $$$. Regardless, I'm hoping to push my site frequency to at least two times per week until the opener.

Slight change of weekday plans. My wife is on call Thursday night for work so we aren't leaving until Friday morning. That should leave me enough time to bait at least one or two sites on Friday morning if I get up early and move at a Speedy Gonzalez pace.

As anticipated, I ran bait to the Hogback site this morning. I last baited this site on Saturday. While baiting I heard blue jay squawking in the distance and a couple sticks break. I figured a bear was close. Pictures confirmed my suspicion. I had an average bear at the site about 2 minutes after turning my back and walking away.

Activity was better than usual this weekend despite the area dog pressure. Most of the bears were nocturnal but activity was better than previous weekends dealing with dog pressure. Daylight activity should be great these next few days. I can't wait for the end of the training season.

My current number one target bear continues to be a regular at this bait site and my number one priority these next few weeks is to keep this one baited every ~3 days; even at the expense of my other baits holding good bears. He's a smart bear. Always J-hooking the bait site.

You are getting after it, Bass. That's a big ole Bruin! Should be interesting after training is closed.
