WI Bear 2017

Unread postby dan » Fri Jun 09, 2017 10:53 am

Time to start this years bear journal 8-)

Rough year this year. Usually I apply with pretty dependable dudes, but this year those who applied with me for Wisconsin zone C are not coming... Its a lot of cost and time doing it yourself. And not as fun...

Went scouting last Saturday. I was also up scouting about a month ago with Mario. I noticed bear sign at some of the bait logs from 2 seasons ago, that was not there when I went up with Mario. Being rut I was hoping find some fresh sign. And did... I found several bear tracks and some of my logs moved around and a bit off tree... Found a track I believe to be from the big one I missed last time I hunted this area. Right in the same area he hung back then.

I threw a bucket of bait in each of the 5 best spots. I would like to keep those spots baited and there are 3 more good spots I would like to start as we get closer. 1 spot I am waiting till after the hounds are done cause it was a great spot. Gotta get some cam's out there and more bait this weekend.

Awesome Dan best of luck. I didn't realize the amount of work that went into bear hunting the way you do (or the cost) and really enjoyed your bear podcast....will be following this thread and hoping to see you arrow a nice bear.

Donuts, trail mix (mostly nuts) cookies, cookie doe, cereal marshmellows, and small quantities of additional stuff mixed on.

I hope you get one. Good luck

Dan you better put together a camp by season. I don't think you'll be able to pull that bear out yourself.

8-) 8-) 8-) That's definately a good one. :handgestures-fingerscrossed: Man I wished I was physically up to it. If I was I'd gladly carry in some bait fro lessons from the master. Even without the chance to actually hunt.

Where's Bighunt?

Good point Bass!!

If you refer to two seasons ago in my 2015 bear journal viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30143&start=195 (around page # 13 ), I was hunting for this bear:

I found the track on post 1 of this journal checking that bears area to see if there was any sign of him... I believe its him.

We need to exchange numbers... It might be "camp Dan" like the old days when I was actually young enough to do it.

I gave my tag away this year kind of regretting it now with all this bear talk haha. But gave it to a young girl and to hear how excited she was to bear hunt. Made me smile ear to ear :D
