He's been eating good. Looks like a swollen wood tick!

Looks like you've got some good potential to get one already! My dad and uncle both drew zone b last year so we ran a number of baits like you on both private and public. For the big heavy stumps we stuck an 8ft 2x4 thru the center and put one guy on each end. Threw it on the shoulder and went, wasn't too bad except the very thick stuff like you ran into. Goodluck on your hunt!

Good luck getting that big bear! I am close to getting enough points and will most likely hunt Zone B also. This thread is stoking my enthusiasm, thanks for sharing.

One more week to go... This is the newest guy on the block. Not the biggest but has a real nice "V" on his chest.

And lots of these yearlings running around. These two "teenagers" were fighting over the cookie dough !!

Last few days were rough, cold front did seem to slow things a bit. Today, with better weather, activity has picked up again. Big boy, "Monty", showed up again on our NW bait. Planning strategy... Still finding lots of bear scat with berry seeds and chokecherry seeds in them. The blackberry crops seem to be just about done for the season so hoping things get better here this weekend.

Season is real close....

But as always there's no shortage of bears around here...even if they aren't shooters. Makes for interesting viewing....

Sorry for the lack of posts. Cell coverage in the northwoods is spotty.

Of the 5 baits we have, only 2 remain active. One we actually had to shut down as a logging operation moved in and started taking the woods away from us (and the bears). So actually now just 4 bait sites.

However, the first three days of the season have been incredible ! We hunted afternoons till dark each day and stayed on our NW bait. In three days we have had 18 different bears come in. Some of them fighting over the bait ! I've passed up 4 different bears in the 200 lb range. Planning to keep them as a last resort.
It's been about 2 weeks now since the big shooters have visited baits during the daylight. I think it may be a long hunt, but it sure has been exciting. Will try to post a youtube video on todays bear fighting and domestic confrontations. Quite honestly, if I were a big boar, I would stay away also !! Will probably move away from this bait site as the sows and 200 lbers are just tearing the place up ! Lots of bears here in Zone B...
