Called a bird in for my brother about 45 minutes ago. Watched him top the hill at 15 yards, "kill him"....."kill him"......putt, putt, gone. He'd miscoursed the drumming by a few degrees and couldn't get turned on him.

First bird I'd really ever hunted on this piece of private. Saw him while out riding and checking fields yesterday evening.

Now moved to the other side of place and listening to birds gobbling in two directions off of our property.

You hunt in Greene Co or the tougher ones all around?
I lived in Maury for 3 years right about the time it passed Greene for top harvest in the state. I was spoiled to say they least at the population there.

Had a tough day today.
I roosted a big longbeard with several hens last night, but let my uncle have him this morning (family farm isn't really big enough for 2). He set up wrong and took a shot he shouldn't have and missed him
I hunted a wma nearby this morning and the only bird I heard was 1500' elevation change and across the state line. Moved to a different one on the valley, but only one I found was on private and going the wrong way.

I took a 4 mile loop around my favorite farm this afternoon checking fields. Nothing but a hen. Wind was steadily getting stronger blowing in a storm.

Birds are hitting the ground early enough that I may try some pre-work hunts this week if the weather cooperates. Good luck everyone.
