Turkey topo

Unread postby Arkansan1 » Sat May 27, 2017 8:51 am

I was thinking since terrain features and topos are constantly looked over for deer bedding why not start a topic on turkey roosting terrain features. I myself am not too experienced but I figured some of you guys may have some input. I have noticed they look to roost in bowl areas near water.

Highest elevation corner of a crop field or large open areas.

In hill country I find them roosted in the top of hollows, at the sides and ends of points and on the sides of ridges.
They seem to favor places where they can fly up and down from more open areas, either open woods or fields, into mature trees.
And It also seems that they pick places to fly up where they can fly off an elevated spot into the tree thus flying more parallel to the ground insted of straight up.
I have found them on the ends of points over creeks and beaver ponds as well.
