Temperatures dropped this weekend and so did the amount of gobbling we’ve heard. It got better when we found a mess of these .

Good luck on the trip.

Jdw, it may look easy on the surface, but it's certainly not for me. I don't consider myself a good turkey hunter, just persistent. Had a few birds give me fits this season and they're still out there as far as I know. This one had been battle tested as well, in fact, dad spooked him and missed him Saturday morning and my brother spooked him yesterday morning. I was able to get tight to his tree this morning by only moving when he gobbled for the last 20-25 yards. Yelped to him twice and scratched the leaves a few times and curiosity finally got the best of him and he pitched down to 20 yards.

It sounds like you are thinking outside the box and doing whatever it takes to get the job done. You sound like a good turkey hunter to me.

I have been watching some birds on a farm I just got permission to hunt. Every morning they roost on the property I can hunt and fly across a big creek to a cut corn field that I can’t hunt. It is hard to complete with a group of hens and plenty of food.
We just got to the part do the season where all day hunting is legal so yesterday I eased into the area where they have been roosting.
About 45 minutes before dark I catch movement on my left and a Tom is standing at 40 yds. I waited for him to go behind a group of trees and I raised the gun and took the safety off.
After a minute or so he flew out from behind the group of trees and landed on a limb about 50 yds away.
Two other birds were a little further away and they gobbled a few times while I waited for it to get dark.
So I marked a tree for this morning.

I got in an hour before daylight and about 6:00 the 3 birds started gobbling with the one furthest from me doing most of the gobbling.

I was watching the bird I roosted last night and softly responding when he gobbled.
Apparently the dominant bird 150 yds down the ridge got jealous and made it to 30 yards before the bird I roosted flew down. He was dead before 6:30 and I had him dressed and in the refrigerator and still made it to work on time.

Thanks, like you said it’s not easy but if you keep at it things work out occasionally.

Had an awesome hunt with my friend this am. This Tom was roosted about 200/250 yards away. Gobbled to us from the tree and took 45 minutes to get in range. He probably gobbled 50 times, just a great hunt.

Had a tom with a hen gobbling at my strutting decoy for a half hour 100yards away. I couldnt take it anymore so I pulled out my reaping decoy. Got in position perfectly. He saw the decoy and ran away

Day 3 and these birds are kicking our butts. Staying on private 99% of the time. What little time they are on public is cutting corners or roosting.

We had a bird gobble 6 times on the limb last night. My brother circled him and was setup 50 yards away well before daylight. Had a guy park by our tent and then walk directly to the bird, spook him, and then take a crack shot at the bird as he flew over private. :snooty:

Yesterday morning I had one 70 yards away in a pasture and strutting to me, until a coyote messed it up.

Brother sat to a bird yesterday that flew off the roost from public to private and proceeded to sit on the private fields all day long.

I went with my brother in law this morning.
We set up on a bird he herd yesterday morning.
The Tom was roosted in the same place as the day before and gobbled good on the roost. We were set up to cover both of his likely exits. He was 80 yds on one side and I was 125 yds on the other.
As soon as I heard him fly down two guys walked in and spooked the Tom.
Since we didn’t hear another bird close I suggested we sit tight and wait for him to settle down.
2 hours later he started gobbling again so I made a 1/4 mile loop to make sure he didn’t see me and got on the point he was on.
It was about 9:30 and he was gobbling about every 2-3 minutes.
I eased up within 80 yds and gave him a few light clucks and a couple yelps and about 5 minutes later he peaked over the side of the point.
