Bucket list

Unread postby whitetailassasin » Thu Jan 14, 2016 6:07 am

I've always wanted to take a nice boar with my bow, anyone that has a outlet or info regarding where, when, and a price to take one, I'd be grateful for that kind of information.

LA & MS both have ample (ample probably isn't the correct adjective ridiculous is better) hog populations. Hogs can be taken on public land during any open season for a particular weapon. For bow the dates would range from Oct 1 - Jan 31. The cost of non-resident licenses would be in the $400 range. This is steep but it would also include 6 deer tags, well MS doesn't have tags but limit is 6. Both states are 3 buck states.

I did the ranch thing a few yrs ago. I wasnt really happy with the hunt. I shot a pig with my bow.. No hunting involved. The meat was great though.

SC you only need a nuisance tag I believe. I killed one anout ten years, paid a crew of dog handlers to put us on the old style Plotts n Pitts dog hunt, Plotts bay em, Pitts grab em, we jump on n stab em with a bowie knife. Cost us $400 each but what a day a group of buddies will never forget. We killed 6 or 7 that day.

I've want to do this as well. Here in MI there are some pigs. Not many around me. I would say down south somewhere. That's where I've been thinking.

I have a hog hunt coming up here first weekend of February. We're using dogs and Bowie knives though. 3rd try has gotta be the charm I hope.

I went down to Tennessee and shot one on a two day hunt. It was pretty rugged country. The first day I tried stalking with my Longbow. No luck. Next day I had the option to take the hounds so they could bay me one and I could stick it with my Longbow. I really did'nt want to use the hounds but decided to.It ended up being alot of fun chasing the dogs around till they finally found me one and bayed it.

I've always wanted one nice boar. I don't want a fenced in ranch. I'm all fair chase. Sounds like there's several guys interested, maybe we could get something together?

SE Mizzou with a good buddy. Have never gone during their "prime chase time" until this trip. Hoping for the best.
