Wife wants to boar hunt

Unread postby Trailcamaddict » Mon Dec 11, 2017 12:43 pm

My wife has wanted to boar hunt for a couple years. This year we could get family to watch kids for a long weekend in February. Problem is that I have no clue where to go. Looking to get some recommendations on outfitters, ranches etc. Within 12 hour drive of WI. Missouri, Tenn.???? Prefer no fences, but would consider large fenced acerage.

I'm in FL - lots of pigs here. Most of the cheaper guided hunts are on private land over feeders, or with dogs but not fenced. The fenced hunts are pricey.

It isn't too hard to get on them on public land hunts but I stopped shooting pigs about 15 years ago.

Thought there would be more guys that have done this. Seems odd to me that hogs are a nucience species but hunting then seems to be quite expensive. Really thought this would be easier to find a low cost even free area to hunt.

If u wanna make a Tx trip I can tell ya some public spots loaded. Or if u want higher odds I know afew guys who hunt them and take people out. Not sure on price and there not outfitters so u would have to find your own food and lodging but I could ask if u ya want.

You could do a lot worse than these two places.
Spartan Game Preserve has some of the biggest boars. http://boarhuntingtn.com
Superior Game Ranch outside of Escanaba MI is a great place! They will treat you like family. http://www.superiorgameranch.com/

Both ranches have Facebook pages. Good Luck!!

I understand the supply and demand is the trump card in regions where they don’t inhabit. Here in southern OK they are in no short supply. You won’t find one under every rock kind of deal but they’re not too terribly tough to find. Baiting can easily up your odds. No license required outside of any big game season. Talked to a guy recently that hunts them with dogs who said they caught over 250 this past year. Feel free to join the fight on feral swine!

Honestly, crazy hunts or jokes aside... chasing them on foot with a bow is only way iv done it and that is a great rush.

Check out double d ranch ohio. Yes it IS high fence (more like medium) but it was a once in a lifetime hunt the hogs were not tied to a tree we hunted for sure. The guide let us hunt by ourselves the first couple hours...then he tried to get the hogs moving. I would highly highly recommend to anyone.
