7mm 08 all the way
Shot a cow moose with one on my first hunting trip when I was 12 with no issues.

Re: Gun recommendation for youth hog hunting
We ended up getting him a 7mm08. Hasn’t shot it yet as it’s his Christmas present. Mid January we are going on a hog hunt so he will have plenty of shooting time before hand. I sighted it in already and I think it’s going to be a great gun for him. Looking forward to flipping the tables where he is shooting and I’m just there to observe. Thanks for all the recommendations guys!

The ruger american .450 bushmaster is a dandy. Good price, light, durable, good recoil, and plenty of power. It's a thumper.
