I'm also wondering how dan goes about this differently than you just for more perspective on the river bottom topic

Sorry for the confusion. I did transpose the two in the podcast, my mistake. I spoke before I thought. To clarify I do hunt the outside bends. I Have provided a graphic example. Dan was correct in his analogy. Dan gets right in there with the bucks. I'm more low impact and get in between the oxbows/bucks. I like my my low impact approach coming in by water. The inside bends are normally too shallow to do that (as illustrated). Plus there is no cut/vertical bank to hide a boat behind. That is my though process; stealth on approach, very little ground scent, and very little human encroachment, plus my scent is not blowing into any areas that would alert other deer. Fits perfectly into my low impact style.

I think both methods have advantages/disadvantages. Hope this clears up the confusion.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Stan
You should write a book with your knowledge and experiences you have had. Great podcast hope they do another with you.

Just listened to it. Topnotch Mario and Stanley.

Besides the hunting stories, I liked the intro where you mentioned the learning cycle. It is definitely shorter now with all the resources. Odd part is there are 15M + hunters and only a small fraction are here. Sometimes we think our woods are getting crowded with hunters that have gained much of this knowledge. I think only a small percentage of hunters are truly seeking these resources.

Also, loved the pay your dues part. No doubt that all these resources are getting some in the right areas, but executing a successful hunt only comes after some beginners luck or paying your dues. Even Michael Jordan had to pay his dues.

Many mentions of a "Good Set Up". Isn't that what it is really all about - a Good Set Up.

Good stuff thanks again.

For sure agree about paying your dues, nothing happens over night. I think it's important to recognize where you are at with your progression and not get ahead of yourself, get that experience under your belt and get better and better as you go.

I love listening, getting confused, looking at the diagrams/aerials/explanation/strategy in the podcast thread, and then going back and listening again with the photos fresh in my mind... The pictures are a must! Thanks again!

I listened to this on my way to work this morning and Stanley said something that really stuc k out to me.

He said " you don't have to be the best, just do your best "

I like that for a lot of reasons. I'm sure like me there are many new members on this site. They seem to be popping up daily. When you have those ruff days on stand and thinking that all your hard work is for nothing think about Stanley's words of wisdome.

Thanks Stan!

:D Stanley says "Variety is well, it's the spice of hunting"
I loved the podcast. I think I could spend a weekend by a campfire listening to Stanley talk hunting and fishing. I've never met him yet he feels like an uncle to me.

Stan, we can't see the pictures anymore!

I wish these pictures weren't posted on Photobucket. That site has turned to trash. http://www.imgur.com is one of the better image sharing sites these days. Any chance you can reupload them and share em? Probably too old of a post to remember but can't hurt to ask :D

Thanks for all the effort put into these.

There were a couple threads recently on how to fix it. Chrome has an add in so you can see the pictures. Give me a second to find the thread
