Big Buck Down, but With a Twist - Wisconsin

Unread postby Sam Ubl » Sat Nov 09, 2019 4:48 am

Dave Bechtel was the hunter, I was behind the camera. The hunt took place in southeastern Wisconsin in late September, the way it all went down was a whirlwind. We hung our set and Dave climbed up. He tossed down the bow hoist rope and I clipped it on for him. I was stepping onto the first peg of the lowest climbing stick when movement caught my eye. After a long staredown at eye level the buck became distracted by his running buddy just long enough for me to swivel around the backside of the tree and pull my camera from the bag to record what happened next. The recovery, now that's an experience you just have to watch to believe... The reality of hunting small acre private land shows its true colors in this one.

Amazing video. Obviously would’ve been nice for the landowner to maybe at least accompany you on the search, but there are some codgers out there that aren’t flexible. It’s their right, but don’t make it right, if you know what I mean.

Nice job on the video, it really tells the story. Very frustrating that you couldn't get to him earlier but glad you were able to get him in the end.
