Weather/Wind Tracking Question

Unread postby Jer-Bear » Thu Apr 14, 2016 4:47 am

Last evening while scouting I jumped some deer from a bedding area. I wasn't sure what the prevailing winds were supposed to be at the time, so when I got home, I thought I could look on one of the weather websites for that information. I was surprised to find that it seems like they were all about forecasting future weather/wind but nothing on wind direction that happened in the past. Do any of you have an idea of where I could find that info?

Ok now when scouting do you guys factor in wind direction? I mean I consider wind direction when planning a set up. But when your scouting do you still keep the wind in your favor?

In the spring or after the season closes I don't pay attention to wind direction for scouting as I want to cover every bit of the ground. If i had to pay the wind I wouldn't be able to achieve that. I don't care to spook deer that far away from the up coming season

Same as hunter10 said. When I do find a bed I try and figure out what wind has him using that bed for his advantage, from there it's picking out a tree for that said wind. I also sit in that bed with whatever wind is going on that day a throw lots of milkweed to see how the wind reacts in that area. Just to get a better feel

That thought had never even crossed my mind! The first things i look for when i find beds are entry and exit trails to determin what direction i think hes going based off of wind directions.

Its something I've been trying to pay more attention to. Hill country does some strange things to the wind. Spots appear to be good for one are the exact opposite.

Thanks Hawthorne, it had that one missing piece I was looking for. It checked out, the wind direction was exactly what it should have been for the hill country bedding that I found. :D
