2017 public land scouting workshop / Saturday January 21st

Postby dan » Tue Jan 03, 2017 9:41 pm

Im wanting to change it up a little this year. I want to do a public land workshop near my house in the marsh, in a new area that will concentrate on primary bedding. This should be good, cause I have killed a lot of big bucks along this stretch of marsh. One of the primary bedding areas I have shot 8 big bucks out of, 6 of them were on opening days 6 years in a row from the same tree. I like this area cause it really shows where a guy needs to concentrate. Also, changing it up and doing a new area might generate some interest from guys who have gone on the farm / marsh combo scout already... Looking at choosing one of the last two Saturdays in January for the 1st attempt at this...

If you already hunt the marsh by my house, I would rather you don't come. These are spots I actively hunt, and Im not looking for competition. This should be a good time, we are going to keep the price the same as last year at $150 a person. A meal will be provided at the end. I encourage questions and conversation, and will take time with every person who comes to make sure every question gets answered.

Who is interested?

Update: Saturday January 21st

I'm in either weekend.

The area is an eye opener for sure. You will see examples of bedding, overlooked spots, staging areas, how to break down an area, etc.

If you have not been to a workshop I strongly suggest you attend. It is a game changer.

Couple of questions.

What time does the workshop start and end? Will it be on a Saturday?

What would a guy need clothing wise coming from out of state? Are waders necessary? Thanks

I would like to go to one at sometime, how many of these do you do a year? Different locations per year?

I'd like to walk the woods with you and Jeff again. I'm interested and I'll probably bring a guy or two. I'll know more after tonight.

It will be a Saturday... Dress in layers. It can be anywhere from 40 to 0 degrees out. Rubber boots but should not need waders. You could get wet, bring a change of clothes. Plan on walking 1.5 miles.

Is that round trip or one way?

You can count me in. Please let me know when the exact time will be, and if I need to register in advance. Thanks.

I can make it on the 21st (but might have to cut out early depending on times). The 28th is a no-go for me.

Any plans of a hill country workshop this year?

Ok, just trying to see if a roadtrip from KS is doable, what time do you guys normally start on saturday morning? And what city in Wisconsin is it? Thanks for the info.

1 way. We will end up at my house and drive back to the cars. It is a long hike, in tough terrain, but we will be stopping frequently to discuss what we are seeing. .

We like to start by 9am. so arrival should be around 8am. We usually end around 4 or 5 pm. I can give you motel options in the area if you plan on coming. I like to have people registered in advance, so we can plan food and wait for anybody running a little late or other issue. Payment on arrival is ok. Cash please..

I will talk to Carol and give exact date tonight.

We were talking about doing a hill country workshop at Jeff G's property this year... I visited it last year and it looks doable. I will have to see if me and Jeff can work out a date.
