Good podcast. It seems that when you are on other podcast they hammer the same things over and over. Can't wait for another HB podcast where you dive in a bit deeper.

Its funny you say that... Cause I have people ask me to be on podcasts alot, and they often say, I would like to touch on a different topic than buck bedding cause everyone has already heard about that from you. I usually think to myself, I really have barely touched on the subject, its just that most of the time the guys interviewing me don't know enough about buck bedding, or did not research me enough to ask the right questions... What we also gotta remember is other peoples podcasts are being listened to by people who know nothing about bed hunting, or buck bedding habits, its not a "BEAST" audience.

Oh yeah I completely agree. I feel that way sometimes myself. Where I'm just grabbing something new from one of your extreme dvds and I know there is a question, but I just don't understand enough to even ask the question thoughtfully!

Another great podcast!! I have a question . You said at the end of the podcast you didn't like leaving even 10 acres unturned until you got eyes on the buck you were hunting and this reminded me of the video you made this year when you were hunting the lottery property . My question is when hunting a perticular property how do you know when to keep moving around trying new stand locations searching for the buck your after or to move on to another property? Also since you only had a specific amount of time to hunt that lottery property did you hunt it more aggressive then you would a property you could hunt all season long?

If I know a target buck is there somewhere... I hunt him down, I don't move on. Moving to a different property would be because of a bigger buck, or because I believe the buck im after is not on the property Im hunting during daylight... As far as hunting an area aggressively. I really did not feel like I was being all that aggressive in the "chasing down a dream" video... I always took human access trails thru the property, and just slid in to where I needed to be, and kept moving till I found what I was looking for. I did not over pressure any one area. Would I hunt like that if I had more time? Most likely yes. I think I hunted harder in that video than most of the time cause I was limited on time, BUT... I have gotten slower, and hunt less, and less aggressive as I age, and since, have seen my results lower as well.... In my prime I was hunting much harder, and much more aggressive, and guess what? Killing a lot bigger and more bucks.....

Great podcast. Loved the details about growing up and learning. Totally agree that being being a naturally more observational person is a gift. Also the inquisitiveness, wanting to know and always asking why. Great combo for a deer hunter!!! I'm not bad at observing but am terrible at the why part. They kinda go hand in hand though. Always asking why makes you observe things better. Gotta train my fuzzy old brain to be better at this.

Just listened to the podcast Dan, great job. The last point you made bout the 80 year old neighbor opening day of gun season was great. And staying mobile was the best piece of advice anyone can take.

I think being observational can be learned... Just comes easy for some, others have to force it.

You know, I hear that so often there are probably going to be 5 or 6 guys that listen to that and think Im talking about them specifically in regards to the "80 year old opening day neighbor"

Re: Dan Infalt on 9 finger podcast
Dan,
You bring up a good point. You are often teaching the Podcast hosts about buck bedding because your mobile hunting is too much work for a lot of people. Too much work based not only on the scouting required , but also hauling in and hauling out a stand every hunt.
Many guys like to sit the corner of a field where they can SEE deer, even if its not the BIG BUCK they are dreaming about. They feel like the "next one" to enter the field could be the BIG ONE. Meanwhile, you are back near the bedding area knowing he won't move very far from his bed before it gets dark.
Many guys have "favorite stands" that they hunt year after year after year because their dad shot a big buck there in 1993.
If you are looking for another topic to talk about on a podcast, you might talk about doing deer drives and the thought process that actually goes into it. Some guys just "Drive timber" and set standers at the property line. This topic may appeal to many of the gun hunters that have no clue about the buck bedding tactics that you are talking about. Just a thought if you were looking for other topics...
