Sounds like quite an adventure! Ecspecially going to terrain you're unfamiliar with. Drive safe and Good Luck!

Amen! Gotta make due with what we have. My buddy and I are 4 years into using Beast tactics on these small public pieces in NE KS...it ain’t easy! Hang in there

My brother and I hunted unit 8 in 2008. I've never seen so many bowhunters. I hope your hunt turned out well.

First step to everything for me is escape people, that appears to be impossible here in unit 8. The wihas are incredibly small, and all have multiple hunters. Today started bird season and god bless those hunters and their beautiful dogs. I️ don’t begrudge those guys and girls and inch of public land I️ am hunting. Almost everyday I️ see bow hunters, crossbow hunters, coyote hunters and now birds hunters. Outside of me getting dumb lucky I️ just don’t see me skillfully tracking down a mature buck. All the reflection that today has brought has convinced me perhaps I am part of the problem. Being an out of state hunter who hunts public in his home state, I would be furious with this amount of pressure and such limited public land.

Vent over. I️ am in a great bedding area with tons of pressure near by, hoping it clicks here soon

Good luck and god bless

And that my friend is the trouble with public land in KS and NE. You cannot escape people because there is no water. And there is no 9000 acre or 3000 acre piece of public. We did a lot of digging and working to figure it out. We made some friends. And they had friends. We now have lifelong people that we share dinner with and chat with on a regular basis.

We also hit KS nearly 10yrs ago when it was not quite a popular as it is now.

This year ks has been tough for my buddies. Rut is very trickle this year in this region, been tough for us as well. It's all still happening but not a big portion of the phases at once. Been tough even for buddies on private.

One of my buddies is part of a fantastic ks lease. They killed 186 and 169. But even there, it has been slow. I keep reminding him he killed a 186 so it really cannot be called slow lol.

Could have killed couple decent bucks on rut patterns this year but nothing big.

Im in unit 10, same thing on this end small pieces with lots of hunters. As a resident of this area I really want to talk myself into driving a little farther west to escape some of the pressure.

I'm in unit 8 right now and the pressure I'm seeing isn't bad at all. The problem is deer numbers. Way lower than I thought. Still having a good time
