Should I report Violations?
Obviously there are different degree's of violations, everything from poaching to illegal tree stands, but what would you consider a reportable offense?
I have come across quite a few treestands left out overnight/all season and not tagged, some where the have hacked off sizable limbs, cleared huge shooting lanes, screw in steps, no hunting signs on public land (where public butts up to private) , illegal access. Illegal access, I walked over a mile through difficult terrain to get to some good spots, only to have another hunting walk down the railroad tracks and sit right down from me. I met up with him in the parking lot and I asked if he knew it was illegal, he said yes, then proceeds to tell me he shot a huge 10 pointer there last week, never found it and he thinks its dead somewhere. Seems like all my best spots from last year are overrun with illegal hunting sign. While I bust my buns to hike it in legally, others are cheating and taking shortcuts to these otherwise hard to get to spots. I feel that if they had to do it legally they would not go through the hassle. ok, sorry, rant over.
Would you guys report illegal stands, destruction of forest and illegal access type stuff?

If you don’t report them, don’t complain about them is my rule.

If someone has permanent stands there, mature bucks probably do not bed there.

Re: Should I report Violations?
I be honest I play by 2 sets of rules, if I'm by myself and see a stand up prob not, but if I'm with someone especially a young hunter you dang right I'm gonna report it just so the other hunter or kid doesn't think that's standard practice and acceptable. But all major violations I would report reguardless who I am with.

Re: Should I report Violations?
I don’t. Main reason is I’m not perfect either.
Something like light trimming, or stands left up really don’t bother me. Chainsaws, screw in steps and blatantly illegal does. Even then, remove and toss the steps, poop on bait piles, and make it well known somebody was there does enough for me.
Regardless of legality, I have zero issue with guys putting a stand up, leaving it up over night to hunt the next day, and cutting small stuff for shooting lanes doesn’t phase me. It’s so common it’s not worth getting bothered

With all the stands I'm seeing I and am debating whether or not to report them anymore. ahh, I probably will just for principle. I'm not saying I'm an angel, who doesn't hunt atleast a couple few minutes past closing or breaks or trims a small branch or two. Good news is I will not be back hunting those spots and Its all directing me to better spots. I think that this is the season where I am learning that if it resembles a traditional hunting spot, don't even bother.

Absolutely report it. The game wardens can’t be everywhere so it’s up to us as sportsman to police our own ranks to eliminate the cheaters. Every one I have turned in has been dealt with and the warden was very happy to have my assistance. Some rule breaking seems very minor but most times they lead to much larger violations. Habitual violaters need to be dealt with.

Re: Should I report Violations?
I generally haven't/don't but always come away from Dewey's posts thinking I should.
I think by and large, people who will blatantly do things like leave stands out, are probably not above bigger violations, or unethical behavior, like the guys talking about losing that buck and not seeming like he put much into finding it.
Oddly, I really don't see many stands left on public where I hunt, and most of the time the ones I do are old, that people clearly gave up on.

I agree with u 100% but being honest if I'm by myself I seldom do the right thing in reguards to reporting stands and such. Prob cause of selfishness or something like that, it's just when I'm 3/4 of a mile in and look to my left and see a stand out in the open woods I just am trying to hurry and get to my spot or when my hunt is over and I see reflective tape leading to a stand in the wide open I'm tired cold and just trying to get home. But u make a valid point, and I will make a conscious effort to do my part

You are either part of the problem, or part of the solution. Those that don't report are part of the problem imo.

Re: Should I report Violations?
I think garbage left in parking lots/in woods bothers me much more then a stand left up for day or season especially if there non damaging. You see plenty of old rotten lumber nailed to trees. It's been happening along time. I do try and pick up garbage. Even spent shot shells if I notice them.
I know a few older guys that don't hunt because of ailments preventing them from taking stands down and up each hunt. I personally don't like the rule. Just not going to debate it. There are plenty of situations I feel it should be allowed. The law was changed for northern wi this year I believe.

Walking down tracks is not a game violation.

Correct but still illegal unless the laws changed.
