What part of South Dakota are you hunting??
Last time I was out there we saw quite a few around Custer but I hear the NW corner of the state is pretty good as well.

I'll be hunting the SW corner near Hot Springs. Hot Springs is in the southern tip of the Black Hills and there's good goat country in the surrounding plains. We are heading out there for a camping/scouting trip in July hoping to lay down a good solid plan for the August opener.

Re: Antelope
I have gone to Gillette Wy the last two years and were going again this year. I have a friend out there who lets me hunt on his land. I have killed two bucks out there, there not huge but Im not paying much money to hunt them and I am proud of them either way. The first one I shot was a 11 incher and the one last year was a 12 incher. I shot my first buck with a muzzleloader and the one last year was with a rifle. They are so much fun to hunt and they live in beautiful country!
Here is the first antelope buck I ever shot
He was with a group of around 15 does, I tried to stalk him and he busted me and took off with 4 does and the rest scattered. I got back on him and got to 162 yards and he was slightly quartering too me, I waited several minutes and he wouldn't turn so I shot him straight on and he didn't know what hit him.
The buck I shot last year was on to us before we even got a good look at him, it took me over three miles of stalks before he gave me a shot, and I took him at 275 yards with my Howa 30-06 and he dropped, then I shot his girlfriend that was with him at around 300 . I got both of these hunts on film too, thats the cool part.
Again, not the greatest example of what an antelope can be, but these were both DIY hunts. Most people consider a 14 inch and up buck the beginning of a trophy, the one I shot last year is going to be on a pedistal mount fence post along with the doe underneath him, so that shows what the definition of a trophy antelope is to me
