The trip has ended
Packing up in few minutes
Tried to get out deep yesterday but the 3-4’ers and the winds just weren’t going to let me
Next year....

Re: Some pics
Mixed it up and went lake fishing
The boy caught his first ever crappie(as did I). Boy he was stoked
We didn’t crush the keeper fish. But had bent rods for a couple hours before lightning ran us off.
Couple things I did notice:
-it was hot.
-The fish were crashing the dragonfly’s on the grassy banks and overhanging branches in the shallows. Had I a fly rod we coulda done well
-saw a solid 13-14” bluegill jump clear out of the water to get a dragonfly. 2#+ biggest fish I’ve ever seen live.
-it was hot.
-I know nothing of crappie but they seemed to be biting pretty good, is that normal in hot weather?
-not sure if I mentioned but it was hot.

Heck ya man nice! Now your speaking my language lol. Crappie are an aggressive fish that run in schools so when u find one there's always a wad of em if u slow down and probe around. The shallow bite depends on water temp in my area. But they will still chase the shad up against the bank at daylight. Some stick around for a bit, suspect in the cooler water shade casted by the overhanging branches. On my home lake once water temp hits 80 u catch more and bigger ones in deeper water suspensended around the thermocline. Bridge pilings are killer this time of year. That pic with your kiddo and the crappie is awesome well done chief...

Great pics of the boys.Looks like some good memories. We fished out of Chokoloskee/Everglades City a little while back and had a blast - 52 snook in 2 days, 12 Reds, 6 trout and a few Grouper. Good times!

Re: Some pics
We stayed at a friend house for the 4th.
The one day we got out it was sloppy as heck so we had to stay nearshore in the bay (boy gets sea sick)
Nothing fancy but some good memories.
We had a school of spadefish off our stern that kept taunting him, he gets this idea he was gonna be Santiago, and hand line the great fish.
He grabbed a length of leader line and a hook and for 20 minutes fed those spadefish shrimp bits, finally he hooks one. And the fight was on.
He hand-lined it like a pro. I wish I had it on video, his determination was fierce. Finally he lands it and hoots and hollers like it was a keeper cobia lol
He’s wearing the cuts on his fingers like a badge of honor. Shows me every morning while he retells the tale.
He caught a jack on a top water which is always fun.
He caught a juvenile jewfish(a first) off our dock when we got back
And a sandperch (another first).
Damn kid never ceases to amaze me with how happy he gets over things I often see as simple. Perhaps the student is reminding the master of what’s important ....
Hers the gratuitous Gulf sunset
Not sure why the same pic is showing up twice but it was supposed to be a pic of the keeper 36” cobia we brought home

Re: Some pics
This just seems to be the right place for these pic.
The south Atlantic red snapper season opened this weekend. Made it out twice, once with my family, and once with friends.
