Conventional Bait casters for Surf Fishing
Just got back from the OBX and have been using spinning rods down there for surf fishing for many years. Have started to see more guys using conventional reels, and recommendations these?

Re: Conventional Bait casters for Surf Fishing
I don't surf fish a lot and only did a little over the years (maybe 10-15 nights a year).
Conventional reels work better with heavier weights & baits.
Braid will give you more distance, allow for less weight, and worse tangles.
If you want to make a career out of it - conventionals will work. We used to use Penn Squidders (and 7-9 ft rods) for the surf fishing and boat fishing for stripers w live eels and mackerel - wide spool.
If you just want to push the EZ button, run with a spinner for pain free ease of use.
