Mike Mitten’s new film Chasing Solitude

Unread postby barrym4odha » Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:19 am

Greetings everyone,

Last night I had the privilege of seeing Mike Mitten’s new film “Chasing Solitude” at the premiere here in Illinois. Big game bow hunters and naturalists will enjoy his recent moose hunts in Alaska. I find the romance of solo bow hunting-in big mountainous country very attractive(always want what you can’t have lol). Great hd film, lots of panoramic shots and an emphasis on the hunt, not just the kill makes this worthy of your time.

Cheers

Mark

I ordered it a few days ago, hoping to get it in soon. I wouldn't expect anything but a great film coming from him. His book is pretty good too.

I thought it was similar to primal dreams and essential encounters but no Wensels. The narrative really focuses on three separate hunts to the Chugach, Aleutian, and Alaskan ranges and hunting, preparation, wildlife, etc... definitely not a commercial like so many hunting vids.

Cheers

Looking forward to watching this. I really enjoy Mike’s stuff. His focus on the hunt much more than the kill really appeals to me.

Any link where to purchase?

Honestly, I had never heard of Mike until he called me up one day. He ran into a friend of mine at Compton or somewhere and wanted to silence something. It was kind of like the first time I heard of dan and then checked him out online. That was what I had done after speaking to Mike, I searched him online and called Andy (aka big daddy). I was very impressed with Mike's accomplishments. I haven't read his books or watched any of his stuff, I have just checked him out on line.

So it is time I change that. I just ordered the dvd.

Barry, I think just reading the cover and the little I know of Mike, I will agree with you. I think I will be happy with his work. Thanks for announcing this, or I would not have likely went to his website to check it out.

To all here, even if you don't buy the dvd right now. It is worth the click to visit the site.

Got to watch it this morning, and yeap it was great.

If you're into the usual infomercial type hunting shows with lots of kill shots you probaly won't like it.

If you like watching animals do their thing, the story of the hunt and a little adventure you need to pick up a copy.

I really wish him the best on this and I hope this isn't the last video he makes.

Thanks for the review guys. I've taken moose in four different mountain ranges in Alaska, and this film high lights three ranges. I wrote an article about one of the hunts in the film, and it will be published in the next issue Aug/sept 2018 of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. The text should be a good compliment to the film.

I did use the stealth wrap from Stealth Outdoors to peel and stick to the nylon uppers of my hip boots. Works great to silence them for stalking up to moose in the willow brush and dwarf birch.
