Looking to go out west next year. Unit 316 looks appealing to our group of guys. Looks pretty tough to access. Has anyone hunted this unit? If so was there good elk sign?

I haven't hunted there, but I can tell you two things for sure. 1. 316 is grizzly bear country. 2. The Beartooth Mountains are RUGGED. I've done a lot of hiking in the Beartooth's and even some of the trails are brutal. I can't imagine bushwhacking off trail for any amount of time in that type of terrain. Based on #1 and #2, it wouldn't be my first choice.

Did you see any elk sign while you were there? What unit would you suggest?

I haven't hunted there but I've been there. There are plenty of grizzly and wolves in that unit, and they have a huge impact on elk Behavior. Although it is absolutely beautiful (and jagged), and you will be hard-pressed to find a Wilderness or Backcountry hunt like it, I think there are way better options in that state outside of that area.
