Victor makes a rat sized snap trap I’ve had good luck with. I’ve also used poison called “just one bite” with some success. Good luck, I hate them things

Smart Rat. Triggered a snap trap and thats it

Videos say hot glue a pretzel or dog food to the trap

Also helps to screw the trap to a heavy board so it can't move around or be tipped over.
Or better yet screwed vertically on a wall, high enough off the floor that they have to stand up on hind legs. Place it so the bail wire is at the top and swings down upon activation of the trigger.
That way their legs aren't crouched to spring away from the wire.

There's a rat poison called just one bite, you can get it on Amazon. It will knock them out! Put the blocks somewhere where the chickens can't get to it but the rats can and they'll be gone within a week or so, depending on the size of the infestation.
