The last few days I've been hunting around water crossing creeks swamps ect with no snake boots on. We have had alot of morning from 30-40 degrees so I assumed they were not active.
Today while leaving the woods their was a large copperhead in the road. Will definitely have my snake boots back on.
Snakes still out in south.

Re: Snakes still out in south.
I have seen them as late as Thanksgiving if it is warm. An that was rattlesnakes.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I don’t think the things ever truly go in.
Warmed to 75ish here today. Buddy and I were both scouting separately on our lunch breaks. I wasn’t really looking for them, but he stepped over a cottonmouth going down a ditch bank.

Brumation:
a state or condition of sluggishness, inactivity, or torpor exhibited by reptiles (such as snakes or lizards) during winter or extended periods of low temperature This subterranean torpor is not a true hibernation … but a cold-blooded version of slowing down called brumation.
I never knew about this until just a couple of years ago when we moved to Kentucky and I was researching copperheads. I've been wearing snake gaiters, on Thwack's suggestion, through most of the season. I haven't been concerned about it since about the time of the first hard frost. I do know that they can still be out, so I kind of keep my eye towards sunny areas if I'm in the woods during those times.
Honestly, compared to earlier in the year, I have let my guard down a lot where the snakes are concerned. Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the...
