Cedar waxwing bird

Unread postby hunter_mike » Sat Jul 16, 2022 3:06 pm

I was out walking in the hikiing trail by my house and saw a really pretty bird and looked it up. Cedar waxwing. Really cool looking! Seemed like it was eating gray dogwood berries.

Not my picture but this is what it looked like. Just a neat looking critter and it was flying around about 5 to 10 ft away for a while

They live near me too. I have this awesome app that tells you what birds are in the area based on their sound. Its called Merlin Bird ID. Just this morning I put it on at 4am while I was in the tent in the backyard with my son, let it run till I woke up again at 7am and it had picked up 35 different species!

I love the cedar waxwings. I’ll admit, I am a bird nerd.

Cool post Mike! We have Cedar Waxwings around here in southern Wisconsin too. I don't see them often, but when I do they come through in small packs feeding on berries, kind of like how Black Capped Chickadees work through in a little pack. I'm always thrilled to see the Waxwings!

They are beautiful.

We had a migrating flock hang around for a couple weeks at one point. They went back and forth from some nearby tall trees to the feeder and back, fueling for migrating, no doubt. Was fun tonsee them.

I had a flock of them descend on me on stand once. I see them occasionally around here too. Cool bird.
