My new turkey gun

Unread postby JWandling » Wed Mar 20, 2019 1:10 pm

I have been wanting a new turkey/coyote shotgun for a few years now. I found a few at some local pawn shops and narrowed it down to 3 guns. The first was a Remington 11-87 special purpose, the other two were Remington 870’s. I really wanted the 11-87 but we were $30 apart and neither of us would budge on price so I walked away. Between the two 870’s one was a 21” wood stock 3” magnum and the other was a 26” camo 3.5” super magnum. I like the shorter barrel but the 3.5” came with 3 chokes a sling fiber optic rifle sights and a soft case. They were priced about the same. I ended up with the 3.5” for $295 tax and all. Image

Those 870 super mags kick like a mule! But they're heck on gobblers!

I can appreciate sticking to your guns on a price, but $30 is worth it for the 11-87 IMO.

I’m sticking with 3” loads. I might even just use 2 3/4”. Im not a fan of heavy recoil.

Remington Nitro Turkey 3” 1 7/8 #5 and a primos tightwad choke. 35 is about the maximum range for that combination. Next I want to try the Winchester longbeard xr but they are about $20 a box. For now I believe I’ll stick with the Remington loads and call them close.
