Anyone ready for turkey season?

Unread postby Tennhunter3 » Fri Apr 07, 2023 7:21 am

We have some really weird regulations this year and a shorter season , several wmas have gone quota only.

Our season opens the 15th.

For some reason my state has gone to turkey shot number 4 or lower in regulations when walmart sells tons of number 5 turkey magnum. It's the most avaliable and easiest to access turkey load and I have no clue why it's not a legal load.

I'm sure I'll go turkey hunting some though I love Turkeys they eat snakes so I hope harvest is low.

All this ammo and I can't use it ,it's messed up.
No idea what I can even use it for.

Does anyone have a clue why a state would ban number 5 shot turkey load?

TN has always had the number 4 rule

The capacity use to limit to 3 shells though

I always thought shot size being lower was on outside box.

Like 00 buck ,2 ,3 ,4 ect.

I know the pellets get smaller the higher in shot.

But does our state mean shot size or pellet size? In regulations it appears shot size.

If it's based on pellet size 5 shot would be legal.
If based on shot size I don't think it would be legal 4,3,2 or buck being legal.
Our regulations are so confusing.

It's like they do this too confuse hunters intentionally just for fun.

It is based on pellet size. No pellets larger than a #4.

Hopefully the new season dates will help more hens get bred. My end of the state has been hot for last couple of weeks or more.

Thanks backstraps for the info.
I don't turkey hunt or waterfowl hunt much.
Hopefully the Remington number 5s will be ok.

This was a awesome watch.

Great to see a different side to Mr Waddel other then his deer hunting on private farms. He genuinely appears passionate about his pursuit of turkeys which is a awesome thing for the sport of hunting and game we pursue.
