2019 Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Tourney

Unread postby 218er » Fri Jan 25, 2019 2:08 pm

A couple buddies and myself are headed up to Brainerd this weekend for the worlds largest ice fishing tournament. This will be our fifth year. I personally haven’t yet caught a fish during the actual tourney. I’ve see a few fish caught but not many. We’ve fished shallow, deep, and in between. We’ve seen some fish caught near us fishing towards the south edge of the fishing zone it seems deeper is better due to the noise most likely. I’m curious if anyone on the forum has every had any luck or has any ideas?

I live in Wisconsin but always wanted to try this tournament at least once.

I know it is crowded so any semi quiet spot would be a good start.

The deep water might be a plus too.

Good luck, let us know how your group does.

In 2011 I caught the big walleye. I won a $12,000 snowmobile. First time up there. Caught in 55 feet of water. Good times.

Good luck! Don’t they give a truck away for first prize?

I fished a local tourney last weekend. Was mind blown when NOBODY entered a walleye  they’re there too... I’ve caught limits out there when the fishing is good.

That’s awesome that you won. 55 feet, i’m going looking for it. Yeh, there is usually 150 prizes, number 1 is a truck. The first 5 or so are great, and then they stagger them like 25, 50, 75, 100, etc
Persistence is undefeated.
