My mobile ice spearing season
Meant to do more than a season recap, but the new flip over mobile shanty kept me well, mobile. This season I went BEAST mobile on them. Got a new clam flip over and ditched the big heavy almost permanent shanty. My purpose was to move more, sound familiar. I saw more pike, through the spear more than ever, and saw more holes than I ever have.
Here is the recap. Nothing big, kinda like my deer hunting, but most fun season ever, and yes still with Uncle Bud's spear. Uncle Bud passed away last summer at 95 and his dad built this spear guessing it was made around 1900 +/-.
Then off to the Bay, Saginaw Bay with Bayshore, biggest hole I ever sat over. Crystal clear water and plenty of action, just no freighters.
this one had a bump in it and had to throw to see what it ate.
Another sit, no pike were harmed during this outing, which I do not like
Best fish of the season went to my neighbor and good friend Ron 36"
Back to the bay with Ron, water clarity was unreal.
Only victim on this trip, not big but legal
had to block the light in the windows, what else Stealth Strips
Last trip to the bay with bayshore. He's a big guy, made a good pike not look so big. Look at the sky in the back at sunset.
Uncle Bud's spear. Spear'em and eat'em

So the flip shack is as dark as your almost perm shack?
Does you miss the wood floor?

I had some light getting in the solid shack, but did miss the wood floor. The inside of the clam was black, and I did have to do a little work on the front windows.
When I put something on the floor it really darkened it up. The positives of the flip over far outweighed any negatives. Mostly how mobile it was, and also taking it off after every sit and not having to worry about ice getting slushed up on me were two big positives. I got out about 15 times, and there were a few more pike, I think about 8 or 9 in all. Still didn't hit all the spots I wanted to, but next year definitely hitting the bay more.

You start spearing and you wont want to regular ice fish anymore.

That's funny, I don't know how you guys handle that heat down there all year.

Those flip overs are nice, deinftely more user firendly and mobile especially if your by yourself. Ive been debating getting one. I have a clam thermal hub, though its nice and roomy for people, it's a little work if you want to be mobile.

You can do more than watch, I have a couple of spears. If you are serious, we should try the Upper Peninsula in January, after that ice gets to dang thick to saw out a big hole. The Saginaw Bay is going to see a lot more of me next January/February, you can come over here anytime you want.
