Second traditional season success

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted due to the after season catch up around the house with life, kids, work, etc. this past fall was my second season hunting with trad gear. Last season I managed to kill a nice buck and a public land doe on the ground, but last season was full of ups and down. I went into the season ready to rock shooting everyday! I ended up having a lot of good encounters and possibly one of my best seasons

First kill of the year was a public land mountain doe in PA. Scouted the first two days up at camp and located the few dropping oaks, saw a decent buck scouting, setup and had this nice mountain nanny come to 8 yards, Lung liver hit and watched her fall, gave her a bit and she was still breathing but couldn’t get up so I finished her

Continued to hunt in my home state of Ohio on some small permission spots , lost a doe I hit low in October… but kept grinding, on the first day of rut cation I had a big ol doe come in to 8-9 yards and no buck around I shot, hit looked perfect but little blood, backed out and found her in the morning in her bed 100 yards away

Back to buck hunting, I bounced around and had encounters with 4 good bucks in 4 days chasing and cruising but no shots, two days before the rut cation was over had this guy cruising a creek bottom, grunted this dandy 10 pointer in to 17 yards or so, he was on alert looking and I took the shot, he turned towards me as I released and sent the arrow down the neck to his heart, not how I wanted the shot to go but he fell over in 40 yards, I was in disbelief….. as a compound hunter for 18 years I always though traditional gear was impossible, but you put the work in and know deer, it can be done

Congratulations, this will be my first year where I spend a good amount of time trad hunting, seems like a very rewarding experience.
