Mobie,
on your approach...how slowly/quietly are you going prior to the furthest South bed spot? Once past that spot, how would you describe your pace/stealth?
Congrats!

I wasn't aware he was in that bed when I came in. However, when I'm within 200 yards of bedding I'm going slow and watching my surroundings. It might take me an hour plus to cover that last 100 yards..

The brown peninsula is just that. It was artificially created decades ago is my assumption. This photo could be old and does not show the transitions well, but it is full of taller grasses and weeds now. This area is about 10 feet high and creates some good bedding and thermal effect.

Buck bedding and travel is in yellow
Stand position and my travel is in Red
Brown box is the main bedding I was targeting
Green is freshly falling acorns these big bucks were heading to

Why I was here when I was here? I used a combination of observation and sign checking in strategic areas that let me know there were big deer using this bedding area. Simply put the area is money. I actually shot a mount worthy six pointer in here last year on November 10th with my recurve that bounced off the shoulder blade. He was fine and got even bigger this year. My targets were him and the big buck I was lucky enough to get a shot at. I did not expect him to be bedding where he was in this instance.. I knew I was in the game but I also know he used the main bedding to the north a lot too.

I will also say this about the setup. The area where they travel to the left of the peninsula is also a possibility of bedding exit. It's playing with fire at times knowing they can and do go both ways. I relied heavily on my scouting that told me they would be going to acorns not some distant food source. I gambled and it paid off..

Awesome, thanks. That bedding would be hard to find just off of map scouting.
