Thursday Morning Special

Unread postby Boogieman1 » Fri Nov 19, 2021 7:01 am

You ever have a morning where you wake up at 3:30 a.m. and say Yep! Today is the day. Was exactly the kind of morning I had today. A cold front blew in around 2 a.m dropping temps 30 degrees and putting a lil moisture in the air. With a steady north wind I knew exactly where I wanted to be.

Spot is a corner, but not a typical corner. Some other players factor in that make it special. Any northerly wind blows my scent out into cattle pasture. A creek runs 20 yards in front of my stand with a hard bend that is also a preferred crossing. 99% of the time you get action from bucks either paralleling the creek or crossing it.

I haven’t stepped foot in this place since mid August. Last years cam pics showed 3 different shooters coming through daily between Nov 17 and 20th. So my plan of attack was to wear the sucker out the next few days as long as I had a north wind.

Slipped in well b4 daylight with the excitement only a first time sit in a high odds situation can bring. Hadn’t been legal light for 20 minutes before the action started. Had 5 bucks come through before I shot this one. Some very young and some very busted up.

When I first laid eyes on this one I instantly knew he was the one. He crossed the creek, hung a left, and ended up right in my sweet spot. I let him have it! Upon recovery I got a sweet surprise. Had one split brow and a 2.5” kicker coming off his G2.

This was not one of the shooters I was going in after. In fact don’t have a single pic of him. Pretty standard procedure for me. What a great day and I couldn’t be happier with my hometown buck. Happy hunting everyone!

I don't know if I'm more jealous of the buck or your ability to wake up at 3:30 ha. Congrats Boogie.

Who said anything about waking up? Maybe I was just partying hard and hadn’t gone to bed yet! Na, I was excited this morning and looked at the clock every twenty minutes. Could smell sweet tarsal in the air lol
