I don’t know what to say
Today was another great day in the mountains. All I can say is I am making up for lost time!
Yesterday I went to a spot I lovingly call mount M-F’er……so ya it’s steep. I had a 20 yard encounter with a small buck trailing a doe on the first day. I’ve been talking about this spot for years with my dad. I’ve been slowly learning the area mostly during turkey season. I finally put a trail camera up just to see what was going on. I learned enough to know I need to hunt here. My dad had been saying he wanted to go the next time I went. So today I took my 70 y/o dad up mount M-F’er. It took a little longer than normal but not much. my dad is in pretty good shape for his age.
I put him in the gap I saw the deer the day prior and went down to another spot about a 1/4 mile away. Around 11am, I thought I would move on up further towards the top of the mountain. I got to the gap where I left my dad and he had moved slightly. As I got close I looked down the holler he was in and saw a shooter buck making his way towards me and parallel to my dad. I pulled up my gun and got a bead on him wondering why dad hadn’t shot…… as the buck stepped into a clear shot for me my dad’s 308 lever action savage rang out…. The buck looked around startled….the buck turned as I flipped my safety off…as I started to squeeze a second shot rang out….the buck ran awkwardly about 20 yards and fell over……it yelled a woo hoo as I watched the buck roll to the ground…..I ran down the holler to get a better look at the buck….he was a goo’in!!! I was tickled to death! It was the first buck he had killed in 11 years…..talk about icebergs!! Lol
he is a perfect 8 pt with a 18”inside spread!!
My pack has been earning its keep this year, but The extra weight and long (steep) pack outs are fine with me!!! What a way to close an already great season!
So thankful!

That there is a good day!
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

What a great day and great story. I hope to be just like your Dad at 70, still climbing hills and connecting on monsters. Congrats to you both. Hope you made him carry the heavy half out!

That’s really cool, just so happened your dad had reinforcements moving in. Was he aware you were also in the area and also had eyes on the deer?
Congrats! Great buck
