I gotta echo this. Yes, ultimately we kill the deer, but long and painful suffering is something that none of us want. I gotta admit that every roadkilled deer (or any animal) bothers me a little and it had to be especially tough on that buck after the injury.

That's what I was thinking.....or a full tanning of hide would look awesome too

Man do I wish I had the space. He deserves a full body, that is for sure. I am trying to figure out if a taxidermist can do something custom for a wall mount that shows most of the body. If not, I will get a shoulder mount and whatever remainder of the pelt tanned as well.

Just a thought; I certainly don't want to tell you what to do with your trophy and space, budget, etc.

If he hasn't been caped out yet, have him skin the body as if for a FULL wall pelt, nose-to-tail, and as much of the legs as he can.

Figure out how to remove the antlers with a section of skull plate intact and making the hide cuts there as easily repairable as possible.

Tan the hide (with the hair on of course-SPECIFY THAT just in case the tanner's an idiot!) then have the taxidermist "reinstall" the antlers into the pelt.
Hang on wall fully spread out.
Advantages:

1. MUCH less expensive than a full-body mount, and(I would presume), also less expensive than the shoulder mount/half-pelt combo would be.(?)
2.Displays the entire hide in its' full glory without sectioning it up as a combo shoulder mount/half-pelt would.
3.More compact display; almost no living space used up.
4. Neva been done befo'!- unique mount to the MAX.
Actually that's not true; I'm sure there are many like that, (but I never see them.)

Maybe other Beasts have and can show pics?

Regarding my previous post/suggestions;
Since it's a smaller rack and wouldn't make any official record books, your taxi might want to remove the antlers at the skull and re-configure them on a artificial skullplate to mimic their original state afterward (in order to minimize the forehead-hide cuts/repairs necessary to remove the antlers from below.

Take lots of pics and measurements first if you and your taxi decide to go that route!

Yea, unfortunately he has some damage on one of his shoulders. So I am thinking a wall pedestal is the best option. The taxi is very good and has won many awards so I trust him to steer me in the right direction.

Thanks all for the kind words.
