W.V public buck goes for a boat ride

Unread postby Adam B » Thu Dec 30, 2021 4:10 pm

I’ve been hunting mostly private property for close to thirty years now in West Virginia. Pre hung stands and ladder stands with timed corn feeders, which are legal here on private. Some how or another about last January I stumbled on to one of Dan’s videos on YouTube. It got me interested in mobile hunting and also hunting on public land. We have a pretty good bit of that here, and the pressure is not too bad on these areas until rifle season. I took a week of vacation from work starting on Halloween weekend and the following week. Me and a good fishing buddy who’s hunted public for a long time hunted hard every day on a lake that has 8,600 acres of wma. I went for the first year fully mobile with four beast minis and a hang on stand. We looked for fresh sign and set up on it. I had more close encounters and action than I’ve ever seen in my whole life. Followed the tactics and did the best that I could. Struck out the week that I took off work but it kept building. On November the fourteenth the rut action was going crazy. There were deer running everywhere. A doe came running in almost directly into me. Shortly after this buck came right behind her. I had to yell at him three times to get him to stop. I let the arrow fly through some brush and double lunged him. Didn’t even get to take a great look at him but I knew he was tall and I was happy to have a shot at him. We worked really hard. Boated about three or four miles and walked many more than that every place we set up. He was probably only a three year old buck, but where I am, and what we have here I was extremely happy with him. Wouldn’t change it if I could. I’m super excited about what the future holds with what I’m learning here, and how much better it feels to have done it the right way! Thank you Dan. You’ve changed my hunting forever.

Awesome story and congrats man on a great buck and new way of hunting. So much more adventure to it when you hunt the public and have all that land to work with in my opinion.

Dandy buck and had to be real rewarding for such a successful hunt on public.

Nice job!
