Catchin’ Bodies.
After a tough 2020 season I was really unsure of how this season would go.
Started things off this year with an early season out of state trip, hunted 2 days and saw 4 solid bucks in shooting range and passed a 2.5 8 point that didn’t quite itch the trigger finger. I’ll be back…
Back to Florida.
Didn’t hunt in September.
Hunted 2 days of Bow in Oct and had my target buck at 50 yards spot and stalk and couldn’t close the distance. Passed on a real nice 3.5 year old 8 point. Had a big rattler crawl up behind me while sitting on the ground, exciting.
Hunted 2 days of Muzzleloader in Oct. Had that target buck patterned and was confident I would kill him. I made some bonehead mistakes and got too dry on the first day, ended up severely dehydrated 3 miles from my truck. Vomiting and couldn’t keep liquids down, disoriented, actually a pretty scary experience. That cut my opening day short and I couldn’t get out of bed the next morning. Finally got some fluids to stay down the next morning and some food for breakfast and was able to get back out in the stand around 2pm. Only to find cart Tracks and blood trail right by my tree. Realized another guy was setup right in this bucks core area with a lock on and like 5 cell cams right where this buck was living and where I was purposefully staying out of. Anyways he killed the buck that morning right by my stand. It was a pretty good buck for central FL public, so congrats to him.
Funny tidbit, I inadvertently called this buck in one day riding a bike off trail to check a camera, sounded just like chasing riding thru the leaves and over branches.
November I went out of state for a week, killed two bucks with my bow. Both were just 2.5 year olds, I wasn’t in the mood to be picky this trip, at all. Had my 6mo old GWP with me and the goal was to get him on an easy track… check.
So Back to Florida again.
Hunted 4 days in November and missed a buck.
Hunted 3 days in December and killed 3 bucks.

Hunted 2 days in January and passed 1 buck, killed 1 buck.
Pass.
Actually bumped this buck out of his bed around 8:30-9am. He heard me sneaking in crunchy leaves and probably saw some movement but never smelled me. He actually snorted at me about 10-12 times and then I got a glimpse of his tines over some deadfall as he slipped off into the muck. So I kept the wind and hung where I could shoot to where he was and could also shoot a little pinch and a fresh scrape I found. Sure enough about an hour later he came slipping back into his bed.
Peep his mud socks and wet legs.
So that leaves me 1 buck tag left for FL. I only plan on hunting a couple of days in February as the season wraps up, mostly so I can round up some cameras. It also gives me a chance to scout with a weapon in my hand, which is my favorite thing to do in the world. Don’t really plan on shooting anything unless I come across something pretty rank…

No Shortcuts. No Excuses. No Regrets.

That's a lot of bone and a lot of meat in the freezer. Congrats.
It will be hard to top that piebald....that's a special trophy.
