First WV trad buck
Shot this buck opening evening under a huge white oak tree in the staging area close to bedding. He was slightly quartered to and I was about 20’ up. The arrow entered perfect tight to the shoulder and passed through. I watched him go only 50 yds and bed down, and he appeared to flop over on his side. I slipped down and backed out for 2 hrs. To my surprise when I returned he was still alive and had moved about 30 yds to get his back up against a big poplar tree. Tried to slip out but he jumped up and off the point. Looked all day Sunday to no avail. Returned this morning to find him not 30 yds from where I’d looked countless times yesterday. With the steep angle I shot him at the arrow exited where his brisket meets his belly. The shot placement was right where I was looking but rookie mistake going in that soon. Live and learn I suppose

Congrats Nice buck. Glad you found him.
Looks like this year in WV you pretty much gotta be sitting under a white oak tree to kill one with all the acorns

Yes under one right on the edge of bedding. I’ve done a lot of scouting the week before season and it’s a bumper crop in my area. Deer quit hitting the green hay fields almost over night
