Funny how some stories on here keep me coming back and re-reading and admiring a big buck

I have been born and raised in TN and love my region… but growing up looking at big bucks in magazines and books those dark antlered big bodies bucks are what hunter’s dreams are made of

That creature has is all!

Wow. What a buck. Congratulations. And kudos on a great double lung when it was needed the most. That’s clutch like hitting a home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

We definitely have more dark racks in northern Wisconsin than in southern Wisconsin. I've always heard that bucks bedding in more conifer type areas leads to dark racks. True?? Florida must have lots of pines? One intersting thing about this buck is he didn't appear to do much rubbing, based on the polish on his pearling area. Maybe thats why it is so uniformly dark.

I don't know why that would be. However, rubs are probably the least important sign to me up north because I find so few. Tracks and droppings and bedding are my go to sign when trying to find a big buck.

I’m surprised that you have a bumper crop of acorns in your hunting area. Most of the acorns around where I hunt have been gone since mid October.

That is very interesting. It maybe indicates that acorn production is extremely regional based on micro climate conditions during pollination in the spring? I always imagined that it was more widespread than that. I'm gonna pay closer attention to that moving forward.

I know last year was also a very big red oak acorn production in my area. In fact, the deer were still hitting them in the spring when I was scouting (late April). I've never seen that before.

Congrats again! Massive buck. The bigwoods is the ultimate challenge in my mind. Out of the regions I’ve hunted anyhow.

One thing about any whitetail region. You don’t need a lot of deer to have big deer. You just need age. I’m sure plenty of northwoods bucks are dying of old age every year. They are not easy to track down and kill.. but you always seem to put one in range of that longbow! And I have a feeling if they categorized mature bucks killed with a long bow in the northwoods.. you might be at the top of that list.

Very impressive

That is a good looking buck! Congrats on easy finding job, I know thoughts had to be bothersome about finding him.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
