Congrats Grizzly!
A different small basket came through today. A doe peed and he literally ran in drooling. Pretty cool to see!

Congrats Grizz!
So I finally got a chance to go over my card pulls. This is the 4th or 5th year I’ve ran camera at this piece and man alive does gun season change things. Especially when the landowners family pays no attention to the wind
Not sure what they shot (they normally don’t kill much, but the neighbors hammer em pretty good) but a few bucks are MIA.
At the apple tree, I had 4 daylight pics in all of November so far. Man that is crazy. I know I mentioned it before but it is beyond me how a spot can be lights out one year and borderline worthless the next.
On the bright side my other cam has been teaching me a lot. Enough so that it is thread worthy. The smallest details can make all the difference in the world.

On a decent track with the muzzleloader. Just bumped him, I think he's with a doe. See if I can get the cross hairs on him.

Quite warm tonight. Enjoying a sit with my son filming the hunt. A lot of variables against us. Farmer disc’d our beautiful waste grain filled corn field this morning. Still a lot of corn out there but miserable to walk in. He can shoot a little untouched section and we still have a couple shooters on camera this morning so he may have some luck yet.

Caught up to them around 1030 or so but only had the doe in scope. Never got an eye on the buck but I pushed them about 5 or 6 times. Close but not quite.

Re: Live from the field 2022 - 2023
He survived firearms season! I just can’t get over how big his tracks are. They were all over too.
I had a good game plan for tonight. I took my time getting in and still hunted around as I checked for sign. Just before I reached the spot I settled on, 3 does came trotting by at 15-20 yards. The buckthorn stem count is so out of control that they didn’t even see me. I didn’t even see or hear them coming just snapped my head and there they were
I could hear deer rustling around in the bedding periodically. I was close enough I didn’t want to get crazy with the rattling antlers (forgot my grunt call ) so I tried to mimic a sparring session. 2 does appeared in a gap at 40-50 yards. Then a spike rolled in at the same time. He ended up downwind and blew the whole place out. Hunt was basically over at that point anyway.
Going to try the opposite side of the property in the morning. I think that’s where the big one spends most of his time.

Been set up for a good 20 mins or so. Shooting light isn’t for another half hr. I could hear a deer moving around over here when I was about 100 yards out. It heard me too but didn’t know what I was. I really took my time and took lots of breaks when accessing. Utilized glare ice when possible and that helped tremendously.
Gonna give it 10-15 minutes after first light then call.

Re: Live from the field 2022 - 2023
Saw 3 does feverishly feeding in the private CRP field 600-800 yards away. That was it. I poked around a bit afterwards and didn’t see as many tracks as I was expecting, and I didn’t cut the giant’s track either. That is odd because late last year he was on this end quite a bit.
Maybe my early November hunts shifted him West
It’s such a tough spot to hunt. Even with a gun in my hand, most often my shots are all 20-50 yards. I can’t climb a tree or the buckthorn canopy makes it even worse.
Regardless, I’m learning a lot about this spot. The degree of difficulty is why there are big bucks here. I know I’m closing in on them and I think I’ve learned enough (2nd season hunting here) that after I tear this place apart spring scouting, I will have the best possible set ups for each of the bedding areas.
