Lot of ice on opening morning. Can’t believe he even attempted this. :o

Gotta ask yourself, "what if?" before going out. Any ice is asking for trouble in a kayak or canoe.

That doesn't sound fun.

I had a canoe out on Monday of last week on smallish river. Never had the ice build up even CLOSE to what we had this year. That cold snap built a lot of ice. I thought I would be able to pretty easily break the ice by the shore to get up on river bank at least somewhere in the area I wanted to hunt...but it wasn't. I had to break ice loudly with my paddle to get canoe close enough to shore to be able to get a foot on the deep bank. Was quite the ordeal and definitely not a quiet entrance to the location I wanted to hunt. Needless to say, no deer seen!

At least he is ok.

And I'd hate to see the bill he gets for all this probably 50k.

I saw a guy opening morning in blaze orange leaving state land with a canoe in the back of his truck about 2 hrs after opening. My first thought was he probably gave up because he couldn’t find any open water. Everything was locked up tight here including the river which was surprising because there is a fairly decent current. Way too cold to be messing around with a kayak. :o

Hopefully he's learned a lesson but good on him for being hardcore and going after 'em like that. Water entries in search of deer are definitely Beasty.

I am glad he made it out alive. I bet he doesnt try that again with so much ice blocking the way.
