My plan to kill a Burban Buck...
Start off with how & why:
- A few years back I had a (great) veteran (Ex - Navy Submarine Chief) I played golf with in a league stop bye and ask for a favor.
His grandson had a landscaping company and needed space to store his growing equipment fetish.
This Kid started out @ 16 mowing, raking, etc... When he graduated he kept this up and took a 2-year degree in this trade - A real go getter!
So fast forward to the favor -
He was 22 and I made a deal with him, if he would maintain my property year round » he could do whatever he wanted too with the 1/2 acre in the back of my Industrial Property.
2019 He and his long time girlfriend bought a house (5th oldest in the town) and revamped and moved in.
Of course he moved his equipment to his house but we keep in touch.
2-weeks ago I dropped of an abrasive saw he let me borrow & saw his property. Yahtzee!
Wooded, little pond, nut trees and he owned one of the biggest lots in that surrounding area.
So of course I asked the key questions, & he gave me permission to do what I wanted with his property!!!
We discussed deer movement - 7AM they pass thru and 4PM they come back thru... Must be bedding in this chunk / core area
Plan of attack:
So I pulled up the following On X maps and drove around the pocket of houses and roads to get a lay of the land and came up with this...
* My hunt is for tomorrow with the wind indicated on the maps as SSW 5-8mph.
I then used the line feature in On X to lay the NH 300 feet law down as a visual, actually went 110 yards to be safe...
Yellow is my area to kill! FYI - Unless it is posted you can hunt it in NH (15' off the road and 300' from dwellings).
Recon:
I took a quick walk in about 100-150 yards and witnessed a few runs and some Mountain Laurel.
Selected a few trees, but narrowed it down to a double tree with a good backdrop and viewing for my 1st hunt.
I've talked to two people and it seems like the little ones are starting to chase last week, maybe it'll spark a bigger reaction this week
2PM tomorrow I'm gonna put the hurt on them, or at least learn more...

That’s capitalizing on opportunity. Good luck.
Funny story a good friend of mine got permission on a similar honey hole one year. Ended up shooting two deer and they both expired on neighboring front yards. Not sure of the sentiment in your area but in suburban New Jersey it created a stir.

I bet it did!
As long as I'm legal, they can kiss my fat, hairy, pimply but!!!
This is a village center style layout in a highly desired township - I'm sure someone might want to talk to me at some point...
It'll be afternoon hunts and hopefully they die in the weening light of the day so Joe home owner doesn't have to witness it...

It’s kind of sad that I thought the same thing.

Go get em Ed! I've had to use the on x line distance tool a few towns west for the same reason. Pretty convenient!

Next year dig a kiddie pool in the ground and keep it full of water all summer in a spot that works good for entry and hunting if he will let you. Best thing I ever did in my back yard.

Thanks for posting that. Gonna do it my back yard. Ever have any issues with it becoming a mosquitoe breeding factory?
