Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Had a nice 2.5 yr old try to get in my truck with me yesterday evening. He was standing in the ditch and I nearly came to a stop then he ran up alongside my truck as I drove by.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
2nd IL gun season. It Started yesterday. I'm settled in for the afternoon sit today. But dejected already. Stayed home with the sick family to help the girlfriend out this morning out of the kindness of my heart. Well the property I'm at now which is where I was gonna sit this morning, I jumped a mid 140s-150 by the time I got the muzzleloader up he was around the hill and off the property. He'd be dead if I woulda been here this morning. Copenhagen is easin my nerves at the moment. I highly doubt there's a 5th encounter with a big one in my cards this season.

God will reward you for your good deed at some point. May or may not be this season, but don’t get too dejected about it. We’ve all had similar movements. Tough, but you’ll overcome it.

Those are pretty good pics too.
Shouldn’t you have both hands on the wheel?

2nd gun season success. Regular firearm tag and muzzleloader tag filled. Yes It's legal in IL if your hunting private land you can use your bow to fill your general firearm tag.

Double freezer queens.
Nice!
PS - that was a much better use of a muzzleloader than Dan"s application.

Sitting in a tree.
Target buck has been around. Fresh poop 30 yards away.

Didn't see anything out tonight. My last day of rifle. Bow ends the 15th, see if I can get out before then.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Got in tight tonight in a tag alder swamp. Several fresh rubs leading to the bedding area and along the transition. The shavings were on top of the snow. The melted then frozen snow made it difficult to get really close. Took me 2 hours to go from the truck to the spot which was about 500-600 yards. Got 96 yards from the biggest, most obvious primary bed I found last April. Didn’t see anything but I’m glad I got aggressive.
I hung a camera in a funnel that I’ll check in January or February in hopes to get a feel for next late season.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Good Lord, Muddy.
Saw a forky pushing a doe and her pair of fawns. It was tempting since I’ve never killed with the muzzloader and just inherited my grandfather’s TC Hawken.
Pulled the sd card from the cell cam which gave me videos. I was able to get a better look at some of the bucks, including the one I’ve been after. He is bigger than I thought.
