Hunted west side of the bedding vicinity of target buck with this morning’s east wind in southern Wisconsin. Heard a deer come to bed 30 minutes before shooting hours and then what I’m confident was a buck rubbing a tree about 65 yards away. Crawling in this afternoon. Hope there are openings in the grass and cattails for a shot if he is one of the shooters. Good luck tonight WI hunters

SOOOOOO CLOSE!!! to tagging out this morning. Got into a group of about 15 elk, with a spike, a rag horn bull (smaller 4x5), and 12ish cows. I closed to about 65 yards and was letting the elk do their thing, just observing. 8 or 9 more cows walked by me at 40 yards and joined the group. Could have have shot any one of those. About 10 minutes later, they get all spooky, then they start running...RIGHT AT ME!!! It was like replay of antelope hunt last weekend. I'm at full draw while 25ish elk run right at me. Lead cow finally saw me at 12-15 yards and peeled of 90 degrees to my left. The rag horn slowed to a trot at 30-35 yards, but wouldn't stop and he had cows crisscrossing in front of him. No ethical shots, and then they ran onto adjacent private land.

After that, spotted a spike bull and used my 2 dimensional elk but decoy and cow call to call him from 100-110 yards into literally 20 yards. That was fun, and man was he dumb

Pretty crazy morning. Could have shot spike and any one of 8 or 9 cows, but I'm holding out for a racked bull or tag soup. Back at it tomorrow, suppose to be close to 90 degrees today.

Got to the parking lot real early this afternoon. Jumped 2 on my way in close to the main walking path. I knew I should have walked out here last week to push them back. Took forever to setup as my lineman’s rope isn’t long enough to get around this tree. I’ve decided I’m not liking these new shikar mini’s with cable aiders. Either way, I am in the tree and just had a limping coyote pick me off moving for my bow. With the lack of rain I’m afraid they are running the marshes and the bedding closest to the mainland. The yote came out of the cattails right where I was was expecting movement this evening.

Opening day in Wisconsin... Great spot, but no trees, and no ground cover. So I strapped a few Bushs together and made a tree... Lol... 5 feet up.

That sounds like a blast Seaz!

I'm out in the woods. There's only an occasional relatively light wind, so not much cover sound. Just heard a handful of barred owls who-cooks-for-you and monkey cackling to each other. Ah, the little things in life. :D

A fair amount of leaf drop in the last few weeks. Noisy under the canopy. Every squirrel sounds like a booner.

Well, onward.

To all the beasts. Have fun, be safe, and enjoy the view. Wonderful day in the central MN woods this afternoon.

Seaz, if you had tagged out yet AGAIN before October, I would have moved to Montana tomorrow.

It’s been a hectic week so I was t prepared for the mor I g hunt. Spent the majority of the day helping my wife around the house and prepping gear.
Finally got to the parking lot and realized that in the day’s business I kept forgetting to check the wind.

It’s completely wrong. Thankfully I’ve scoured enough to have a backup. I’ll have to cross water. I’m sure it’ll feel good in this heat!
I hunt, I fish and I sing guitar solos in songs.

Good luck to everyone out!

Setup with bedding to my South and East. I've had Bucklin here early season in previous years. Feels great to be in a tree.

I’ve had a nubby underneath me for 30 minutes. Little guy came in on my access and is too young to be very afraid of my scent. He won’t leave, he’s just munching on acorns. I would like him to leave so I can get situated. I’ve been sitting on the seat facing the tree to relax and now I’m stuck!

Edit: he’s worked off. I guess the good news is that these oaks are dropping and deer are coming to this flat and I didn’t get skunked

I can relate

I was on my way up a ridge where I heard acorns dropping. Almost got to the flat when I saw does and fawns headed my way. Was thinking about shooting one and then the boss doe locked on to me. Head bob, busting sticks, the whole shebang. I was stuck with all my weight on the downhill leg and bow out horizontally 90 degrees from my body. I felt the burn for a long time and then I had to lower the bow. One snort and gone. This might be a good acorn area or else they were coming for water. Going to set up and see if any bucks show later.
