Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Good luck again upwind and anybody else still out grinding!
I still hunted my way in yesterday and bumped a couple doe on the edge of bedding but didn’t see anything once I set up. Going in this morning to the same piece but the opposite side of the bedding. Hopefully I can get in quiet but I’m a little nervous about everything freezing last night. This will be unfortunately my last hunt of the year.

Good luck papublic. Saw atleast a dozen this morning. Just a little off. Could shot 2 of em but just a Lil to small size wise. Winds sposed to be total opposite tomorrow morning but I think I can make it work to readjust. Got out clean to I'm hoping so that's a plus. Huntin over the soybean plot tonight on a piece of private.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
This late season is tough going. Went out with a friend yesterday and didn’t see anything. He went out again today - I had a funeral so he was on his own. He found some tracks in fresh snow so we’re going to give it one more go tomorrow. It’s the last day of the season and we’d both like one more doe for the freezer. I don’t think we’ll be that fortunate, but I’m hoping my buddy can at least get one because he found the spot and he’s had a tough season.

Here is to the end of a long season! Amazing last day of the season! Today is my first time hunting in January.
Such a weird year for me.. The year of missed opportunities.
After tonight - 8 buck encounters total, 5 Missed Chances, 2 Passed and 1 Lost. My goal was to get onto bigger deer and not utilize my cams, both goals achieved!
Good luck to anyone still hunting!

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Having a blast hunting the extended archery season here in southeastern WI. Out last night on public in Washington county. Caught a glimpse of a deer running at full clip out in some CRP, sure enough she was getting pushed around by a buck. By some miraculous turn of events they go from 300 yds out in front of me, to circling completely around me and trotting up my walking path to get 8 ft away from me! Im only 5ft up in the only available tree in a thicket of nasty alders. Got into place and clipped on but made the mistake of waiting to draw back before she got from behind the last bit of cover between us. Pretty much looking her in the eye with 8ft between us, I draw back hoping she’ll freeze. She busts out, with the decent 8 right on her trail none the wiser. Anyway, I’ve yet to be able to shoot and recover a deer with my bow but damn if WI public land didn’t present me with plenty of opportunities this season. I got on em this year, just need to work on my shot IQ and tree selection going forward. I owe a great deal to Dan’s scouting workshop earlier in the year for helping me to find them.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Here we go last sit of the 2021/22 deer season in IL. Hunting the bean plot again. Saw 9 here last night. No standards today. Hoping the wind stays SE all night cause it will be just missing them. Unfortunately I seen where I had visitors come check out the bottom of my stand after I left last night. Ones a 3 finger buck track. Even if nothing shows it will be a good ending to my season and the family will be happy to have me back lol.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Talked myself into one last sit tonight. Wouldve much preferred a north wind to the south I got. Ended up seeing a doe and two fawns that have been locals all year. They finally got my swirling wind at about 50 yards. According to camera I should a been there last night as the field was full of deer right before dark. May or may not be my last sit of the year. If the weather looks good maybe I'll give it another go before season runs out.
Did find a match set of sheds laying right next to each other off a 3 or 4 yr old. He was shot high in the shoulder during bow season and is looking pretty skinny. Probably the stress that made him drop early
