Live from the field 2021-2022
Time to put 2020 behind us. Thank god! Congrats to all of the killers, from this past season. A few places are still at it. Good luck to whomever is still chasing 'em down!
I have no desire to lug the ole xbow around. But have been taking some walks. Actually ventured into a marsh yesterday. Put my left foot through ice once. Barely had a little water get in my boot. Made me feel alive!!
Saw tons of coyote tracks. A few deer tracks. Jumped 2 deer out of beds. Both looked bald. And the beds looked like typical doe bedding areas. Reconfirmed some buck beds, nothing fresh. And a couple new ones. Also picked 1 ground pound kill site!
All in all a great day out in the woods/marsh!

Re: Live from the field 2021
On to 2021!
I have been out scouting a number of times already this year. Determined to have a variety of bucks beds to hunt out this year.
Recently found this one on a little micro point out in a cedar swamp. I still plan to make one trip back to this area to figure out the quietest way to get back here. Very dense and the tree I picked is about 40 yards from bedding so I must stay very quiet!
This picture is actually about 5 yds off of the bed, but I like the the old with the new rub! It looks like he got just a little bit taller than last year.

Couple pics from predator calling this morning. Bumped into some elk on the drive in. Did 4 sets, crickets on the last 3 but the first was awesome, had three different yotes answering back to my howls and one challenge barking. Never got a visual on any but it was a fun day in the woods!

Re: Live from the field 2021
Went out to a friends place. Great habitat, but it sees a lot of people traffic and the most wonderful pointer... who does not let an inch of that place go unsniffed.
Some tracks, but nothing to the extent you’d expect after having snow on the ground for a week. Saw some blood in urine, which was curious, but no real heavy foot traffic to indicate it was anything significant.
No deer seen.

Re: Live from the field 2021
Had best hunt of the season last night, went with a buddy to an area he'd been on deer. We slipped into where we thought some deer would come browsing off of a ridge with pines and down into the bottoms and pick up acorns. He climbed a tree about 35 yards NW of me. I had just got climbed up and set and he said there was 6 bucks 140 yards to the north up feeding at 3:30 in the evening! They ended up bedding back down about 4:00, he had only gotten 2 sticks high when he saw them and was afraid to try and climb higher with them bedded in sight. At 4:45 they got back up and started browsing towards us, at 5:10 the biggest one, was probably 130"ish, got to 40 yards from him and while waiting for a chance to shoot one of the smaller bucks was 20 yards or so ahead of the rest of the group and ended up catching our thermals and spooking all he needed was a few more seconds. Anyways they only went about 200 yards and started browsing again, so obviously weren't spooked bad. Ended up having another small buck come by on my side of the ridge about 40 yards but never could have gotten a shot. All in all it was a great evening in the woods! I took this pic right at dark, if ya look close you can see my buddy on the right side of the pic lol

Good stuff guys.
Good luck to those still grinding.
This January is insane for me with family stuff. I'll probably only get 2-3 more hunts in.

Re: Live from the field 2021
Ended up passing a small 11 and nice 8 with a busted tine and that ended season here. Had over 30 deer in the field so moving and getting pics was tough but should have a few good ones to try to put the puzzle pieces together with on this piece this off-season and next season.

Re: Live from the field 2021
Hi all - New to the boards, have been following Dan and HB for about a year now, started bow hunting last year. No dead deer yet, but its all a learning process. Here are some photos of a buck deep on public that I'm thinking about trying to make a move on. He is in an extended archery season county in Wisconsin, so I've got a small window of time. I've had a camera back there all year and have been seeing him since April I'm pretty sure. What do you guys think? I'm thinking about following his tracks back to bedding now that there is snow back there, especially considering Dan's latest video.
